Football’s coming home?

In a manner of speaking, yes. The former England striker Dion Dublin has netted a surprising new job. The 45-year-old retired sportsman has been named as a new presenter of the property programme Homes Under the Hammer.

That’s an unexpected move…

Dublin, who enjoyed stints at Manchester United, Norwich City and Coventry, will be joining presenters Martin Roberts and Lucy Alexander on the 19th series of the BBC One morning TV show.

Homes under the Hammer – will he be demolishing buildings across the UK?

The programme documents the progress of budding property developers as they buy houses at auction and proceed to renovate them in a bid to make a profit through rental or resale.

It makes a change from the football pitch…

Dublin’s hobbies are very varied. Since retiring from football in 2008, he has followed in the footsteps of many a sports star by appearing as a pundit on Sky Sports – but he has also explored other less typical avenues.

Such as…?

Well, there was the small matter of him inventing a percussion instrument called the Dube and accompanying the indie band Ocean Colour Scene during a gig in 2011.
