Commiserations, planet earth: Jedward unfortunately rescued by helicopters after being trapped by tides on the Irish coast

The X Factor twins were enjoying a stroll along the seaside late at night when they found themselves wondering onto “shifting sands”

Jedward were trapped by high tides on the Irish coast on Wednesday morning (2 July), but were unfortunately rescued by helicopters some time later.

The unnervingly irritating X Factor twins were enjoying a stroll along the seaside late at night when they found themselves wondering onto “shifting sands”.

The brothers, John and Edward Grimes, soon realised they were stranded but luckily had their mobile phones with them.

Their immediate reaction? No, not to call the Coast Guard for help before they drowned, but to ring their mother instead. Who called the Coast Guard for them.

“It was terrifying for the boys,” Susanna Grimes told the Irish Sun.

“They ended up on shifting sands completely surrounded by water. This could have been a terrible tragedy but for the Coast Guard finding them.

“They got to the boys about 1am. I was beside myself and John and Edward were very badly shaken.”

What they lack in any form of redeemable musical talent, however, they make up for in manners.

Now recovered from their ordeal, Jedward praised “the good work of the Coast Guard”, and warned others not to be quite so stupid.

“What we want to get across is how quickly this all happened,” John said. “This got out of hand before we even realised. We would urge young people to be very careful around water and the sea.”
