Today is the day that Ed Balls tried to search for himself online, and just made a crushing gaffe instead

Ed Balls Day isn't a Bank Holiday or a day of religious observance, but it has a special place in the hearts of many.

What is Ed Balls day?

Legend has it that, on this day in 2011, Shadow Chancellor Balls was shopping in Asda to buy the ingredients for pulled pork. Somebody mentioned there had been an article posted about him on Twitter that he might want to read. Balls attempted to search for it but accidentally tweeted his own name instead.

Should I care about it?

Um, probably not. You're here now but there's always the Baltimore riots, the Nepal earthquake or the impending execution of the Bali Nine you could be reading about. Sorry to get all "big picture". But we assume Ed Balls will also tweet Ed Balls, like he has done before.

One year, Ed Miliband even got in on the act too, by tweeting "Ed Balls". See? Politicians have a sense of humour too.

What should I do to mark the day?

You could always tweet "Ed Balls", like so many other wags have done.

Anything else?

Absolutely nothing.
