Geraldine Winner, a former dancer and the widow of late film director Michael Winner, has been hospitalised after intruders at her home beat her with an iron bar.

A man and woman broke into the pensioner’s home in Knightsbridge, central London, at around 10 pm on Friday 9 October and assaulted her.

During a three-hour raid, the pair stole a number of items, according to police.

Police officers were called to the flat at around 2am on Saturday 10 October following a report of aggravated burglary.

Not naming Mrs Winner, a police spokesman said that two suspects forced their way into the home of a woman in her 70s and assaulted her.

“It is believed the suspects left between 1am and 2am on October 10. The woman was taken to a west London hospital by ambulance and is in a stable condition.”

Police inquires continue, and no arrests have been made.

Mr Winner died of liver disease aged 77 at his home in Kensington in January 2013.

Following her husband’s death, Mrs Winner described him in a statement as a “wonderful man, brilliant, funny and generous.”

“A light has gone out in my life," she said.

During his career, Mr Winner made over 30 films, including the Death Wish series, before becoming a restaurant critic in his later years.
