Katie Hopkins tells Cheryl Cole to put on weight, wear more layers and 'eat a roast dinner'

In other words, "Controversial columnist is controversial".

Fresh from having a go at celebrated athlete, Vogue cover star and LGBT ally Caitlyn Jenner, Katie Hopkins has painted her next target on Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, telling her to eat a roast dinner as she’s far too thin.

The X Factor judge defended her size last week after someone on Instagram called her a ‘bag of bones’. She shut them down in a comment, telling them she was sick and tired of a culture where it was acceptable to body shame thinner women.

Hopkins, who clearly doesn’t follow Chezza on Instagram, wrote in her Sun column that seeing photos of Cheryl at the X Factor auditions ‘left her cold’.

“I may not be a big fan of chubsters,” she mused tactfully. “But little Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is so tinky-tiny I feel cold when I look at her. Cheryl, love, you need a good roast dinner and some thermals.”

Hopkins, who piled on a lot of weight for a documentary about being fat once, regularly likes pushing peoples buttons and causing offence for reasons that remain unclear.

Earlier this year she suggested deploying gunships to ‘tackle’ the ‘migrant problem’ and compared families fleeing war zones to cockroaches.

Cheryl hasn’t said anything in response yet, but her response to last weeks Instagram trolls feels very relevant here:

“I would never dream of calling somebody too fat and that they should maybe cut down on their food intake? What is the difference?

“I’m so f sick of people thinking it’s ok to be mean or body shame anyone. And it’s woman on woman. Have some respect and maybe think there may be reasons why before opening your mouth please.”

Hear, hear.
