Cheryl Cole is to receive a pet Chihuahua as a birthday gift from ex-husband Ashley Cole.

The England and Chelsea soccer star - who Cheryl divorced in September 2010 amid revelations he cheated on her with several women - is said to have splashed out on a pet pooch to add to the beauty's existing brood for her upcoming 28th birthday on June 30 in the hope of winning her back.

A family friend told The Sun newspaper: "Ashley has wanted to get her another pup for some time, but the moment hasn't been right till now.

"He has now called a breeder. He also wants Cheryl to go away with him in total privacy so he can convince her they've a future as a couple. He expects her to agree."

Meanwhile, Ashley's former Chelsea teammate and "wingman" Michael Woods has moved out of the former couple's £3.5 million one-time marital home in Surrey, South East England, to make room for Cheryl, with the sportsman said to be "confident" he can win her back.

An insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Ashley is confident he will win Cheryl back and they will make a go of things. Michael was there for Ashley from the start - he was his wingman throughout Ashley and Cheryl's estrangement.

"And now they are back in touch, he does not want to get in the way. He has packed up his stuff to make way for 'the missus'."

The couple are even said to be thinking about starting a family together.

The source added: "Ashley wants to start a family and believes Cheryl feels the same - that kids would complete them. He believes they'll be together forever."
