Cristiano Ronaldo reaches goal of 100m 'likes' on Facebook
The Real Madrid player has more fans on the site than his own team
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most "liked" football players in the world, if Facebook is anything to go by.
The Real Madrid player has reached more than 100 million likes on his page - more than his club and several team mates combined.
Ronaldo, 29, posted a video on Tuesday to thank his fans with a montage of his career, from playing as a teenager to memorable goals for Real Madrid, Manchester United and Portugal.
The text read: "Since I was a little boy, I always dreamed about beautiful moments like this.
“I'm proud to be one of the world's most-liked public figures on Facebook.”
After the montage showed popular posts of him with his son and holding several trophies, he spoke to fans.
"Thank you for all your support, I'm really proud and I'm really happy to achieve this number," Ronaldo said. "Thank you very much."
The number puts him well ahead of Lionel Messi - approaching 74 million - and even David Beckham on almost 50 million Facebook likes.
The next most-popular English player is Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, languishing on 25 million.
