Singer Billy Ray Cyrus spoke of his pride last night as he and daughter Miley attended the UK premiere of Hannah Montana The Movie.

The pair posed for pictures with their arms around each other on a purple and yellow carpet in London’s Leicester Square.

The UK premiere follows the film’s record-breaking opening weekend in the United States at number one.

The film is the second best US Easter weekend opening of all time and the best opening ever for a live action U-rated film.

Billy Ray plays Miley’s on-screen father as well as being her dad in real life.

He said: “I’m very proud of Miley. I’m proud of the film. We’ve got a great cast, a great crew...the fans that are here have been amazing today.

“To see this type of support really makes it worthwhile. It’s all about the fans.”

Thousands of screaming teenage fans turned out for the event.

The movie follows Miley Stewart as she struggles to juggle school, friends and her secret pop star persona — Hannah Montana.

When Hannah Montana’s soaring popularity threatens to take over Miley’s life her father (Billy Ray) takes the teen home to Crowley Corners, Tennessee, for a dose of reality, kicking off an adventure filled with fun, laughter and romance.

Billy Ray said: “Getting back to Tennessee, getting back to our roots, it’s kind of the heart and soul of the film.”
