Stereophonics Stuart Cable's test results 'will take weeks'

The mystery surrounding the sudden death of former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable could take six weeks to resolve.

Toxicology tests on his body were carried out today but the wait for results could take until late July, police said.

The 40-year-old rock star was found dead at his home near Aberdare, south Wales, early yesterday morning.

A post-mortem examination has since taken place at Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil.

The cause of death will not be known until toxicology test results are returned, which can take up to six weeks.

A date for an initial inquest into his death, for the purposes of official identification, has not yet been set.

Police are not treating his death as suspicious.

But Cable's sudden, and so far unexplained, death was greeted with an outpouring of grief by family, friends and fans alike.

A mountain of flowers has been left by grief-stricken fans outside his home in Llwydcoed, near Aberdare.

Flowers continue to mount on the windscreen of his black Chrysler 300 sedan parked outside his local pub, the Welsh Harp Inn.

He had spent part of Sunday evening drinking with regulars at the pub, in nearby Trecynon, where he was a familiar figure.

Friends and former band mates have also paid glowing tribute to the musician.

Cable, who was sacked from The Stereophonics in 2003, has described turning into a "coke-taking zombie" during his period with them.

Kelly Jones, the band's frontman and a childhood friend of Cable, described yesterday how news of the death had left him "in shock".

He also movingly revealed how his friend never expected to reach 40 because of his love of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle.

He added: "I cannot begin to tell you what we've been through together as friends and band mates, up and down."
