James Argent, one of the stars of hit TV show The Only Way Is Essex (Towie), has been found safe and well after earlier being reported missing.

Argent's father told Sky News that his son's “phone was broken and he's now on his way to Blackpool”.

His agent, Neil Dobias, has also confirmed that Argent has made contact with his mother.

"He's been found safe and well. I'm not sure of any of the details but he's called home and spoken to his mum. I just know that he's safe and well," Mr Dobias added.

The Metropolitan Police had earlier said that it was growing increasingly concerned for the reality star's welfare.

Argent, 26, was last seen at around 3am on the morning of Friday 29 August at his home in Woodford Green in the London Borough of Redbridge, which borders Essex.

Argent, also known as Arg in the popular reality show, last tweeted on 28 August to say: “I really miss my old pal @LydiaRoseBright will you hurry up and get back from Italy ASAP! #Needy x”

“James Argent left home at 3am on Friday morning to meet his agent at the airport to catch a flight for work abroad,” Argent’s agent Neil Dobias had said.

“When he failed to turn up, he was reported missing by his family who are understandably concerned.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesman had said his disappearance was unusual according to his family and agent.

Argent has starred in Towie since it first aired in 2010, becoming a household name alongside Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger.

Some of his co-stars appealed for Argent's safe return, including Sam Faiers, who tweeted this morning: "We're all worried come home @RealJamesArgent xxx".
