I am surprised that your obituary of Gilles Deleuze [by James Kirkup, 8 November] fails to mention his involvement in left-wing politics after 1968, writes Keith Flett. He was often to be seen on left-wing demonstrations, which, paradoxically, had the effect of increasing the audience amongst the Left for his philosophical writings, which were not in any real sense left-wing at all.
In this way Deleuze played a small but significant part in the great retreat from 1968.
