Obituary: Penelope Gilliatt
Penelope Gilliatt, novelist, playwright and film critic, died 9 May, aged 61. Film critic of first the Observer and then the New Yorker. Author of short stories and five novels. Her screenplay for John Schlesinger's Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971) was nominated for an Academy Award. (An obituary follows.)
