Obituary: Sir Alexander Turner
Sir Alexander Turner, lawyer and editor, died Auckland 6 July, aged 91. Former President of Court of Appeal of New Zealand (1972-73) and well-known legal writer and editor. His early successes included two Court of Appeal cases, R v Gardner (1932) and R v Philips (1949), in which he excluded from evidence at criminal trials confessions procured by the police by threat or inducement. After retiring from the Court of Appeal he became a director of the New Zealand branch of the publishers Butterworths and its editor-in-chief.
