The 5-Minute Interview: Bradley Walsh, Comedian and actor

'I scored the winner on my professional football debut'

Wednesday 20 December 2006 01:00

The former Brentford FC player fronts the 'Bradley Walsh's Soccer Shockers' DVD. He is due to present his own show on ITV next year and is currently in 'Cinderella' at the Milton Keynes theatre

If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be...

Putting on make-up and getting in my costume. I'm playing Buttons as a mad 10-year-old with too many E numbers.

I wish people would take more notice of...

Safety on the road. Every day this week I've been in a traffic jam because of a crash on the motorway.

The most surprising thing that happened to me was...

Getting picked for Brentford FC. I was playing for a very low county league team, Leavesden Hospital, and this guy asked if I wanted to play. I played, scored the winner and was signed up as a professional for two years.

I am not a politician but...

I'd build up the police force and NHS. I'd stop wasting money on crap like the Dome.

I'm good at...

Sleeping and eating. My pal has insomnia. He hasn't had a full night's sleep for years. I'm writing a screenplay about his life.

I'm very bad at...

Returning calls.

In moments of weakness I...

Pray. Or go to church. Everyone's got to have a bit of faith.

You know me as an actor but in truer life I'd have been a...

Footballer. I was a sheet metal worker, then a metal engineer, then a Pontin's bluecoat then a comedian. You can achieve anything you want if you put your mind to it.

In a nutshell, my philosophy is this:

You never know what's coming round the corner. There's only one thing coming round the corner - more corners.
