Benjamin Netanyahu's victory this week may have been seen as controversial by some, but Sarah Palin's not held back in wishing the returning Prime Minister of Israel all the best.

The victory came after what many believe was an 11th-hour grab for votes from the Israeli right by promising there would be no Palestinian state under him.

Barack Obama dismissed Netanyahu's "divisive rhetoric" and expressed concern over anything that would "marginalise Arab Israeli citizens".

State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said, following Netanyahu's re-election, that "based on the prime minister’s comments, the US is in a position going forward in which we will be evaluating our approach with regards to how best to achieve a two-state solution".

However, Republican Palin didn't hold back in congratulating Netanyahu, praising the "good people of Israel" for returning him to office.

She wrote: "Thank you to the good people of Israel for supporting a leader who will stand up and fight for all the free world while other leaders sit down."

Palin has long been a supporter of Israel. She went on a private tour of the country in 2011, and told citizens that "the Israeli and American link will grow in strength as we seek peace along with you".

In 2014, she Palin was criticised for quoting Joan Rivers when talking about the Gaza Conflict.
