Sean Hannity and Anjem Choudary exchanged heated words on Fox News as they debated whether or not political activist Pamela Geller should have expected the tragic outcome of her ‘Draw The Prophet’ contest in Texas.
The anti-Islamist event on Sunday evening ended in tragedy , after two gunmen opened fire outside, only to be shot dead by police.
Choudary, a radical British cleric, argued that Geller should be reprimanded for her part in organising the “blasphemous” event. He said she should also have been prepared for the threats she received from members of Isis online, as she knew “full well” that many Muslims believe such an act is punishable by death.
Hannity questioned whether not being able to accept the caricatures of the Prophet Mohamed indicated his own insecurity in his faith. Choudary countered that blasphemy wasn’t a rule he’d made up personally.
“You want to kill her,” Hannity said. “You want her to die.”
Hannity pointed out that Geller is not Islamic, and therefore operates by different rules – a notion rejected by Choudary, who believes she should have fully considered the consequences of her actions.
At which point the debate quickly became hostile and ended in an insult-hurling shouting match.
But Choudary wasn’t the only one to disapprove of Geller’s contest. Donald Trump branded the activist “disgusting” when he appeared on Fox & Friends earlier this week.
