Tom Hanks 'offended as a man' by Trump remarks

Tom Hanks has said he was personally offended, as a man, by the leaked derogatory comments Donald Trump made about women.

Mr Trump has been widely condemned by senior officials in his own party, his family, Democrats and a whole host of celebrities and voters after a 2005 recording was leaked on Friday. In the audio, the Republican presidential candidate can be heard making a number of sexist comments before boasting that when you have reached a certain level of fame “you can do anything [..] grab them [women] by the p***y. You can do anything”.

The 70-year-old has since an apology while also dismissing the remarks as “locker room talk” – a defence which has also come under intense scrutiny in the past few days, including from athletes who dispute that such misogynistic language is used in locker rooms.

Hanks has joined the growing number of high-profile people publicly condemning Mr Trump by saying he was personally offended by the comments, not because he is a father or husband, but simply because he is a man and human.

“He was at work man. He wasn’t in a locker room, he was at work,” the Castaway actor told the Press Association. “He was showing up to do a thing on camera.

“Look, I’m offended as a man. I’m not offended as a husband or a father. I’m offended as a guy. That’s just not right, I’m sorry. It’s not right at work. It’s not right in the locker room. It’s wrong. Period. The end. That’s all.”

Earlier this year, Hanks gave his predictions as to who would be the next president of the United States, telling Sky News: “I think that man [Donald Trump] will be president right about the time when spaceships come down filled with dinosaurs in red capes.”
