Trevor Noah: Jon Stewart's replacement faces online criticism over 'anti-Semitic' tweets

Trevor Noah is already facing criticism after social media users rounded on his past tweets, just a day after it was announced he would replace Jon Stewart on The Daily Show.

The South African comedian, who is fluent in six languages, was widely celebrated as an unexpected and international choice for Stewart’s replacement yesterday.

However, social media users have not responded well to the announcement, pointing out numerous examples in Noah’s Twitter feed of what they claim is anti-Semitic and sexist tweets.

Many of the tweets were posted in 2012 or 2011.

The tweets were first spotted by Buzzfeed’s Tom Gara, whose postings indicated he was more irritated by Noah’s lack of humour than by the offensiveness of the tweets.

“I retweet not in anger. But it's an impressive rise for a dude who three years ago was replying to Uberfacts tweets with dick jokes,” he posted yesterday.

Others have not been so kind.

Noah has not posted on Twitter since yesterday, when he wrote: “No-one can replace Jon Stewart. But together with the amazing team at The Daily Show, we will continue to make this the best damn news show!”
