Glasgow mourns victims of lorry accident as photographs show gathering flowers

Many of paid tribute to the six people, as yet unnamed, who died in the tragic accident

Gathering flowers show the grief of Glasgow’s residents in the wake of the horrific lorry accident that claimed the lives of six people.

Today, tributes flooded in from bystanders, friends and family of the victims in the crash in George Square, Glasgow.

Many left hand-written messages on the banks of flowers forming in the square. As the collection grew, Glasgow council issued a statement confirming it would be moving the display to in front of the Museum of Modern Art - to better protect them.

One message, pictured in the gallery below, read simply: "Why?"

Another expressed love for the victims and added: "Hope this makes other people across the world more grateful."

Social media users expressed their grief on Twitter. On user wrote: "I cannot shake the tragedy that has happened in my city." Another, Joanna Judge, said: "The heart of Glasgow has been broken."

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon added her voice to those grieving as she visited the site of the accident this morning.

“My thoughts are with everyone involved in this tragic incident, and especially with the friends and families of the six people who lost their lives in what is another sad day for Glasgow and Scotland.

“Flags will be flown at half mast at all Scottish Government buildings as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives.”
