Wembley to host Euro 2020 final

Wembley is set to get the green light today to stage the final phase of Euro 2020. The 13-city concept, which Uefa’s president, Michel Platini, insists will be a one-off, has been created to mark the 60th anniversary of the tournament, which has been expanded from 16 to 24 sides. In total, 19 countries put forward cities to stage matches at the pan-European tournament, which will be organised in six regions.

Who’s the Dady? Ban for double ID

A player who was using two identities for his club and international teams is banned for two years by the Confederation of African Football. AS Vita’s Tady Etekiama had a Congolese passport, but was using the name Dady Birori and a different birth date when playing for Rwanda.

Goal celebration goes down a hole

Coritiba striker Joel Tagueu’s goal celebration went comically wrong when he jumped an advertising hoarding and disappeared into a hole during their win over Sao Paulo in the Brazilian championship. The hole was behind the hoarding concealing steps to the dressing room.

Dyke to return £16k watch he received as gift

FA chairman Greg Dyke has revealed he was given a £16,400 watch by the Brazilian FA during the World Cup but had no idea of its value and will return the gift.

The heads of all 32 qualifying countries and Fifa’s executive committee were given the Swiss watches, but Fifa’s ethics committee said accepting such gifts contravenes its rules. The committee has demanded that all the watches be returned.

“I had no idea of the value and it has been left untouched in my office since returning to England,” Dyke said. “We are taking steps to return the bag and its contents, which are still in their original packaging.”

Yorkshire will help Gale ‘in any way’

Champions Yorkshire vowed to help captain Andrew Gale clear his name “in any way possible” after he was branded a racist by the ECB. Gale faces a disciplinary hearing over charges of using abusive language with racist connotations in an altercation with Ashwell Prince.
