Hodgson accused of 'lack of respect' after ignoring Rio

With just a week to go before England's opening match of the European Championship, manager Roy Hodgson's problems continue to mount.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill was yesterday ruled out of the tournament after fracturing his jaw during Saturday's friendly with Belgium, leading to Martin Kelly, of Liverpool, being called up as replacement.

The continued overlooking of Rio Ferdinand from the squad, whom Hodgson, above, last month stated was left out for "football reasons", has caused the player's agent, Jamie Moralee to question Hodgson's choice. John Terry, included in the squad, has been charged with alleged racial abuse of Ferdinand's brother, Anton.

"To treat a player that has captained and served his country 81 times [in this manner] is nothing short of disgraceful," Moralee said. "Total lack of respect from Hodgson and the FA." MORE

Opinion: James Lawton

Roy Hodgson is resorting to the cuisine which served him so well at Fulham – Cottage pie. It certainly hasn't had the taste buds jumping, but then you have to take a look at the larder – and the casualty room. MORE
