Christian Climate activists deface DECC ahead of Paris climate change talks

Police arrested five Christian climate change activists in Whitehall this morning in connection with defacing the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC).

The group, part of ‘Christian Climate Action,’ planned their activities to coincide with the first day of the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris.

Shortly after 9am, five protesters left from Embankment tube station, some carrying paint, brushes and a mock coffin. Upon arriving at the DECC, some of the group proceeded to whitewash the walls, paint over signage and spray paint slogans such as ‘Department for Extreme Climate Change.”

“We hope more Christians and others will be blessed with a holy rage, moved out of their apathy and led in love to prophetically resist climate ignorance and denial,” said activist Ruth Jarman.

The five members were arrested after approximately 15 minutes of painting and prayer, when police arrived on the scene.

The DECC would not comment on the situation.
