A 15-year-old boy has been charged with offences related to cyber attacks on websites across the world, police said.

The boy, from the Plympton area of Plymouth, Devon, was charged on Monday following an investigation by officers from the Operation Zephyr Regional Cyber Crime Unit.

He was charged with three offences under Section 3 of the Computer Misuse Act, which relate to denial of service attacks on websites in Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the boy was also charged with two offences under Section 51 of the Criminal Law Act.

"This relates to bomb hoaxes placed with airlines in North America via social media," a force spokesman said.

The boy has been released on police bail and will appear before Plymouth Youth Court on December 18.
