The bodies of a married couple were discovered at their seaside flat after neighbours were alerted by their two young sons. It is believed the mother had been strangled by her husband before he killed himself.

The couple, believed to be in their thirties, were found in the property in Shanklin, Isle of Wight, on Monday. The couple's sons are unharmed and being looked after by a friend of the family.

A police spokesman said: "Officers were called by a member of the public and went to the address, where a man and a woman were pronounced dead."

The spokesman said the death of the woman was being treated as "suspicious", while the man's death was "non-suspicious". He added: "Whilst retaining an open mind, detectives are not looking for anyone else suspected of being directly responsible for the deaths."
