Detectives are questioning a 34-year-old man following a series of fires at hospitals, hotels and other public buildings over several days in southern England.

The man was arrested in Kent today shortly after police released CCTV images of a man wanted over small fires at two Kent hospitals in two days.

It followed an earlier fire in a sixth-floor cupboard at Crawley Hospital in West Sussex on Tuesday which led to patients and visitors being evacuated. Nobody was hurt but a small amount of money was found to be missing from the hospital restaurant.

Two hotels, a sea-life centre in Brighton and a cinema were also targeted in attacks that dated from August 26. All the small fires were contained and nobody was hurt. Police said they were investigating whether they were all linked.
