Kimberley Hainey has conviction for murdering toddler son crushed

A woman has had her conviction for murdering her toddler son quashed by appeal judges.

Kimberley Hainey, 38, was jailed for life and told she must serve a minimum of 15 years after being found guilty of killing Declan in their home in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

The child's body was mummified when it was discovered in March 2010 when he would have been 23 months old.

He is said to have last been seen alive when he was 15 months old.

Following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow a jury found Hainey guilty, in December 2011, of murder.

But judges at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh have now ruled that the conviction should be quashed.

Lord Clarke, sitting with Lord Mackay of Drumadoon and Lord Drummond Young, did not issue the reasons for the ruling.

The case was continued until tomorrow when further details will be heard and the opinion of the judges is expected to be published.
