A man who poured boiling water over his housemate and hit her over the head with a saucepan has been jailed.

Carlton Anderson, 53, was jailed for 11 years and six months after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent at Croydon Crown Court.

Anderson shared a communal kitchen with his victim, a 19-year-old woman, in Portland Road, South Norwood.

On March 30 2017 she was in the kitchen when Anderson threatened her and then poured a pan of boiling water from the stove over her, before hitting her over the head with the saucepan.

The woman was left with serious burns to her shoulders arms, face and head, but she was able to call the police who arrested Anderson at the scene.

DC Jennifer Williams, who led the investigation, said: “This was a horrific attack on the victim, who is still going through a long process of emotional and physical recovery.

“I commend the victim for her strength and bravery in calling police and supporting the prosecution to court after such a traumatic incident.”

She added: “Anderson is an extremely dangerous man and I am pleased that he has received a substantial prison sentence.”
