A 38-year-old man has died after being hit with a single punch at a nightclub in Halifax.

The man was knocked backwards by the blow, falling to the ground and hitting his head “extremely hard”. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one has been arrested and it is believed the man who threw the punch may be unaware of his victim’s fate. Police are appealing for him to come forward.

The incident happened at around 2.30am on Sunday inside the Liquid nightclub on Commercial Street.

The man was hit following an “exchange of words” with a group of males, Detective Chief Inspector Nick Wallen said.

“He was punched once and unfortunately, and tragically, he has fallen backwards, having been knocked unconscious, and has banged his head extremely hard on the concrete floor in the club,” he said.

“He has never regained consciousness and has been declared dead at the scene.

“We know the man who threw the punch threw only one punch and left the building very quickly afterwards.

“It is my belief that this man certainly would not have intended the outcome of what he did and would not be aware of the outcome of what he did when he left the nightclub.”
