Oxford child sex ring case: Abuser 'branded his 12-year-old victim with a heated hairpin'

Girl tells court she was repeatedly raped from age of 11 and forced to act as sex party 'hostess'

A child was branded with a heated hairpin so that other people would know she “belonged” to her alleged abuser, a court heard today.

“Girl D” said that she was forced to become a sex slave by two alleged members of the Oxford child sex gang, who also allegedly raped her themselves.

Giving evidence for a second day at the Old Bailey, she described how she was made to act as a hostess in hotel rooms and at parties, where she would be expected to have sex with men that one of her alleged abusers, Mohammed Karrar, brought to her.

She told the court that both Mohammed and his brother, Bassam Karrar, raped her on many occasions from the age of 11. The girl said she believed she was branded “so that people knew that I was his if I ever had sex with someone else”.

She added: “I was at home with Mo [Mohammed Karrar]. We had a slight argument and I think we had sex and, afterwards, the hairpin, he scraped the paint off and lit it. He bent it into a letter “M”. After heating it for a little while, he stuck it on my bum … so it would say ‘Mo’.”

She went on to describe occasions before her 13th birthday when she was raped by both men. Girl D also told jurors of numerous times when Mohammed Karrar and other men he brought to see her had sexually assaulted her. She said the trigger for one of these incidents was her threatening him with a knife she had grabbed from her pocket as he tried to rape her. After the incident, the court heard, she came to hate Mohammed Karrar but thought she was to blame for the sexual assault because she had threatened him. The alleged victim, now 19, told jurors: “I just thought he still loved me and it was just a mistake that he made.”

Many of the men, she said, paid Mohammed Karrar in exchange for sex with her. After these ordeals were over, she said he would tell her “well done” and offer her drink and drugs.

She said she was also forced to act in role-play games by Mr Karrar and that other girls her own age would sometimes be brought in to be involved as well. Some of the men, she said, paid £50 for her to perform oral sex, others “£300 to 400 for a full service”, others got a lower rate if they were friends with Mohammed Karrar. She alleged that some men, those she called the “gimpy men”, paid even more to be allowed to tie her up. At this time, she was still only 13.

She also described an occasion when Mohammed Karrar asked her to perform oral sex on a friend of his as a birthday present. After she bit the man, she said she was raped by Mohammed Karrar as punishment. “He was fuming because... he had promised [his friend],” she told the court. “I was saying ‘stop, I’m sorry and I love you and I don’t want to be doing this’.”

She described the Karrar brothers as having “no respect” for women, adding: “They make that quite clear.”

Girl D alleges that the Karrars sexually assaulted, raped and arranged for other men to do the same to her between the ages of 11 and 15.

Mohammed Karrar, 38, and Bassam Karrar, 32, are among nine men currently standing trial on 51 sex and drugs charges.

Another set of brothers: Akhtar Dogar, 32, and Anjum Dogar, 30, are also charged, along with Kamar Jamil, 27, Assad Hussain, 32, and Bilal Ahmed, 26. Alongside them in the dock are: Mohammed Hussain, 24, and Zeeshan Ahmed, 27.

All of them deny the charges and the trial continues.
