A driver has attempted to lure a six-year-old girl into their car as she skipped outside a Birmingham primary school just meters away from her mother.

Police are investigating claims that the driver pulled alongside the girl in a black Mercedes at around 4:40pm on Wednesday after she had been picked up from an after-school sports club.

The girl had completed her class at Great Bridge Primary School on Bramah Way when the driver opened his door and asked her to get into the car. According to the Birmingham Mail, the six-year-old then turned back towards her mother, and both ran away together from the car.

The school’s head teacher Liz Regan issued a letter to parents on Thursday saying: “It is most concerning that an incident of this nature happened when the parent was obviously only a short distance from their child.”

“We will speak to all children to repeat the stranger danger messages. Please keep reinforcing this message too and supervise your children closely outside school.”

A spokeswoman for Great Bridge Primary School said yesterday that “the school is dealing with the incident and the police have been informed. We have nothing more to say.”

West Midlands Police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident.
