If you’re taking a shiny brand new high performance car out for a first spin, you could be forgiven for taking extra care to preserve its bodywork.

So it’s understandable that the officers in this new police BMW, following closely behind a disqualified driver in a large pick-up truck, joked just before they pulled it over: “Please don’t ******* ram us!”

It is understandable too, then, that as it started to reverse towards their pristine bonnet one officer can just about be heard saying “You’re ******* joking!”

Truck driver Chad Harrison was caught on camera, before he rammed into the police vehicle, causing £5,000 worth of damage one moment and then fleeing from the officers in the next.

Despite being hit, the new police car was still able to take after the vehicle, chasing it for nearly 20 miles before its passengers fled.

With the help of a police helicopter’s infrared camera, Mr Harrison was found hiding in some bushes.

He later admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, failing to stop for police and damaging eight other vehicles in the pursuit, and received a 19-month jail sentence and a seven-year driving ban.
