Detectives have issued an appeal for information after a man was found dead in a field near a canal.

West Mercia Police are treating his death as unexplained and are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.

Officers were called to Berrisford Road, near Market Drayton, Shropshire, at about 1pm yesterday after being contacted by a member of the public.

The man, who was in his 40s and lived locally, was found near an aqueduct on the Shropshire Union Canal, which passes over Berrisford Road.

Detective Inspector Andy Parsons, who is leading the investigation, urged anyone who was in the area, including those using the canal towpath across the aqueduct between 7pm on Wednesday and 1pm yesterday, to contact police on 101.
