Police have launched an investigation after human remains were found next to a supermarket petrol station.

The discovery was made in undergrowth at the Tesco Extra store in North Harbour, Portsmouth, Hampshire, at about 11am on 9 March.

A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said: "We were called to Clement Attlee Way at Cosham shortly after 11am following the discovery of what appears to be human remains.

"Officers are currently at the scene and a cordon has been put in place to protect the area.

"At this current time we are unable to confirm any further details as investigations are at a very early stage."
