Police have been scanning CCTV footage as they hunt the man who sexually assaulted a four-year-old boy in a supermarket toilet.

The child was attacked at Asda in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire at around 2pm on Tuesday.

Extra patrols are being carried out in the area of the town's Britannia Way as detectives scan CCTV images.

The attacker is white with dark-coloured or brown hair. He was wearing dark clothing including a long-sleeved top with a logo on it.

Detective Inspector Graham Cordner said: "This is an isolated incident, nevertheless one that has caused significant stress to the young child and his family. Thankfully, the child is safely at home with his family.

"We understand people will be concerned and I would like to emphasise that this type of incident is rare. Nevertheless we have additional patrols in and around the area to offer reassurance to the public."

Police want to speak to anyone who was at the Asda store between 1.30pm and 2pm on Tuesday, particularly anyone who used the toilets.

An Asda spokeswoman said: "We have taken this report very seriously. We alerted the police and are supporting them fully in their investigation."
