Staffordshire Police to wear video cameras on patrol

All frontline officers, special constables and PCSOs will be required to wear video cameras on their uniforms when on patrol in a bid to boost a force’s “integrity”.

Staffordshire Police said the scheme would see 530 cameras used by officers to “improve police integrity, accelerate cases through court, assist with rapid evidence gathering and offer greater protection for officers”.

While officers must wear the cameras, it is understood they will not always be required to set them to record. Assistant Chief Constable Julian Blazeby told the Police Oracle website: “The initiative... provides a lot more transparency for our staff – particularly around stop and search.”
