The co-organiser of a massive pool party that ended with a man dying from a gunshot wound in a quiet Surrey village has insisted the gathering had been intended as “an innocent party, not a sex party”.

Summerlyn Farquharson, who also goes by the name The Female Boss Krissy, denied earlier reports that the event, in the village of Headley, near Epsom, had been a swingers’ party.

Sunday night’s event had in fact been advertised on social media as “The big mansion pool party part 3”, with the venue described as “a posh location in the hills”.

"It was an innocent party,” said Ms Farquharson. “It was not a sex party.”

Ms Farquharson said she had rented the large house, in a small road between the church and a pub, for the past four years, holding two similar parties there without any trouble.

She added that she had hoped the pool party would also allow her co-organiser and boyfriend, the reggae dance hall artist Braintear Spookie, whom she also manages, to showcase his material.

But instead, in the early hours of Monday morning, a 34-year-old man received a fatal gunshot wound to the chest and a 36-year-old woman suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

Ms Farquharson told the Press Association: "Before the shooting everything was nice and then it was chaos. “At about two o'clock the crowd was getting unruly. I am not sure if it was the alcohol, but by the time I got to the security I heard a gunshot, I saw people running, people were trying to get into the house.

“People weren't allowed in the house as it was a pool party but they were banging on the door.

"I opened the door to let Spookie in, people were shouting to call the police, saying someone was shot, so I called the police and locked us in.”

She added: “We don't know who was shot, we don't know why it happened, we have no clue, we don't know who it is. We never planned for this to happen.”

Ms Farquharson said the organisers had received abusive messages following the attack.

“It was frightening and damaging to Spookie's career, getting all this bad publicity,” she said. “We are also getting lots of hurtful messages, for him to be sent back to Africa. We aren't from Africa, we are British like anyone else: we have the right to be here.”

Neighbours described hundreds of people gathering for the party and complained of loud music going on into the early hours of Monday when the shooting happened.

Broken glass and rubbish were left strewn around the property the following morning.

Temporary Detective Superintendent Bex Smith of Surrey Police said the weapon was thought to have been a handgun, which has yet to be found.

She said: “This was a shocking turn of events at what had been billed as a private pool party and would have been witnessed by a number of people.”

Ms Smith asked for anyone who attended the event or had phone footage of what happened to come forward. She also asked for information about a white and black Mini car which left the scene.

One person has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a second on suspicion of assisting an offender.
