A group of suspected illegal immigrants caused chaos on the M25 this morning after running from the back of a lorry.

Thirteen people were seen dashing along the hard shoulder at about 8.50am, after getting out of the vehicle between junction 11 (Chertsey) and junction 12 (the M3).

Surrey Roads Police said traffic was slowed between junctions 12 and 13 after the group emerged from a HGV, which drove off before police arrived at the scene.

All of the individuals were detained and arrested for immigration offences.

In a statement, Surrey Police said: "The 13 people, including men and women, were located walking along the M25 and were arrested on suspicion of immigration offences.

"They are currently in custody and the UK Border Agency has been informed."
