Two teenage girls have been arrested after a video emerged of a man being abused at a bus station in Bolton.

In the video, which was posted to Facebook and viewed thousands of times, two girls can be seen shouting aggressively at the man while he sitting down in the station in Moor Lane on the evening of 4 January.

Two girls, aged 15 and 16, were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of assault and now remain in custody.

“We were made aware earlier today of a video circulating on social media and launched an investigation to identify the man in the video and also the two girls,” said Inspector Dave Henthorne from Bolton’s South and Central Neighbourhood Policing Team.

He said the man in the video had not made a complaint.

“There has been a huge amount of speculation on social media about the circumstances surrounding this video. We are currently speaking with the two girls to establish what exactly has taken place and we would ask people to now allow this investigation to continue.”

In the video, the man appears to attempt to stand up when two girls start to verbally attack him. One of them then pushes him back down and says: “Sit the f*** down.”

The other girl is seen leaning over the man and says, “get the f*** off me,” when he raises his hand.

A member of staff can be seen working towards them at the end of the video.

He added that officers were keen to speak to anyone who had witnessed the incident.
