A 19-year-old man has been arrested at London’s Heathrow airport on suspicion of preparing for acts of terrorism.

The man, who is from Coventry, was arrested as he stepped off a flight from Jordan after landing in the UK, police revealed on Saturday.

The arrest took place at around 3pm on Thursday, a spokesperson for West Midlands Police said.

The man is currently being held in the West Midlands area where police say he continues to be questioned by officers.

Today Westminster Magistrates Court, granted a five day warrant of further detention for the man, meaning could remain in police custody until Thursday 27 November.

He is not believed to have posted a threat to the flight, and his arrested was based on intelligence.

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Police said: "A 19-year-old man from Coventry has been arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of preparing for acts of terrorism.

"The arrest was pre-planned and intelligence led. The suspect did not pose any risk to the flight."

Police would not confirm whether the man was travelling alone,

Earlier this month four men were arrested amid fears a terror plot might be in the works to disrupt Remembrance Day services.
