As bad first dates go, being tricked into driving a getaway car following a robbery is probably as excruciating as it gets.

Leah Gibbs, 23, from Tylorstown in south Wales, has told of how an evening getting to know Adam Minton began to go wrong when he asked her to give him a lift to quickly visit a friend.

Little did she know it would be a contender for the most memorable entry to the list of bad first dates being collected online by The Independent's Rhodri Marsden.

Miss Gibbs wondered what was going on when her 21-year-old date got out of the car near some shops and ran back five minutes later shouting: "Go, go, go!"

But it was only when police arrested the pair – accusing him of robbing a betting shop at knifepoint, and her of being his accomplice – that she realised what had happened. She spent a night in a cell before Mr Minton convinced officers she had no knowledge of the crime. He was jailed for four and a half years.

"I thought I would be ending the night in Adam's arms. Instead, he had landed in the long arms of the law and I was facing jail," she told the Daily Mail.
