Two men were charged yesterday with the murder of executive Carole Waugh whose body was found inside a lock-up after she had been missing for more than three months.

Rakesh Bhayani, 40, and Nicholas Kutner, 47, appear before Croydon magistrates today accused of killing Ms Waugh, 50, who was found inside a car and had died from a single stab wound. She lived in central London but was found in New Malden, southwest London.

Both men had already been charged with fraud offences over alleged attempts to take money from Ms Waugh's accounts. Mr Kutner, of no fixed address, is also accused of pretending to be her brother to try to sell and rent out her London flat. Ms Waugh, who returned to Britain in 2008 after working in the oil industry in Libya, was last in contact with her family in April.

Police became suspicious when money began to disappear from her bank accounts. Twelve people were arrested as part of the inquiry but Mr Bhayani and Mr Kutner are the only ones charged to date.
