A murder investigation has been launched after a young woman was stabbed to death in east London.

Metropolitan Police were called to the junction of Barking Road and Altmore Avenue in East Ham at around 12.45am on Thursday.

The woman, believed to be in her twenties, was found with stab wounds and immediately treated by the London Ambulance Service.

She was taken to hospital but later died as a result of her injuries.

Scotland Yard said enquiries are ongoing to establish the victim’s identity and any possible motives.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact the police.
