Eleven killed in road crashes

ELEVEN people died in two head-on car crashes. Six were killed in an accident early yesterday which closed the A1 near Alnwick, Northumbria. Five others, including four members of the same family, died in a crash on Friday night when two cars were engulfed in flames after a high-speed collision near Wakefield, West Yorkshire. More than 12 people were injured when a car being followed by police crashed into a taxi and pedestrians in Hollingwood, near Oldham.
