A hospital nurse is facing misconduct charges after allegedly using her colleague to carry out personal errands for her whilst on shift.

Abiola Olukemi Apara, who worked at Basildon Hospital is accused of asking a clinical support worker to perform tasks for her, such as driving her to Ikea, mowing her lawn and taking her car to get an MOT.

On another occasion, she allegedly instructed another member of staff to call in sick and drive her to London instead.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council is due to hear her case in January. Ms Apera faces seven charges relating to the incidents dating back to between 2004 and 2007.

Ms Apara, who worked on the Lionel Cousins ward, is also alleged to have asked the clinical support worker to install her new washing machine and put sealant around her bath.

She is also accused of shouting at a nurse infront of a patient she was washing and of asking the nurse for a reference for her daughter, who she had not met.

The Conduct and Competence Committee is also due to hear allegations that on one occasion Ms Apera did not speak to a ward sister for five weeks, instead choosing to communicate by leaving notes to her in the staff room.

Basildon Hospital declined to comment.
