The best places to watch the 2014 London New Year's Eve fireworks without a ticket

It's not too late to see the fireworks, as long as you don't mind being a bit further away

If you don't have a ticket to the fireworks in London on New Year's Eve 2014, it's now too late to get one.

But never fear, you can still see the fireworks: there are a few locations outside the ticketed area where you should be able to see the display

Primrose Hill

Nearest tube: Chalk Farm

The most central of London’s big hills, Primrose Hill has an impressive view of the skyline stretching from Canary Wharf through the City and Westminster. The fireworks will still be far away, but they won’t be as far away as on the other hills.

Alexandra Palace

Nearest tube: Wood Green

A bit of a slog to get up and with a slightly restricted line of sight to the centre, but probably one of the best places to see private displays scattered around London if you’re not that interested in the main show.

Vauxhall Bridge

Nearest tube: Vauxhall or Pimlico

Good luck getting on it, but if you can bag a prime seat you’ll see the display, and from a quite interesting angle.

Monument

Nearest tube: Bank/Monument

Just outside the ticketed zone, so expect very heavy crowds, but should provide a good view, especially if you’re fall. Also try Cannon Street around the corner, which will be equally rammed.

Hampstead Heath

Nearest tube: Hampstead Heath, Gospel Oak, or Belsize Park

Head for Parliament Hill for the best view on the Heath. The view of the city is excellent; fireworks will be small as they are far away.

Tower Bridge

Nearest tube: Mansion House

On a normal day Tower Bridge is impassable due to tourists. The railings next to the roadway are probably going to make for an interesting health and safety hazard with heavy crowds. If you get a view it’ll be great, though.

BBC One

Nearest tube: Wherever you like

Always an option if you don’t fancy standing outside needing a piss.

Alternatively, just watch last year’s fireworks on YouTube and go to a party.
