The body of a British man believed to be in his 50s and from Liverpool has been found floating in the sea off the French Riviera.

The man, who has not been named, was found on Saturday off the coast of Eze on the Cote d'Azur.

He was wearing sportswear and was pulled out of the sea by fishermen a few hundred metres from the shore, local newspaper Nice Matin reported.

Officials told Sky News that the man’s bicycle was found nearby along with papers confirming he was a British national.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: “We are looking into reports that a British national has died in France. We stand ready to provide consular assistance.”
