Two brothers have been killed in a car accident, police said yesterday. Ryan Mabbott, 12, and his brother Daniel, 16, died after the Honda Civic in which they were travelling was in collision with a Mercedes on Saturday between Swillington and Woodlesford, near Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Their younger sister, aged six, remains in a serious condition at the Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.

Police said the collision happened just after 6pm on the A642 between Swillington and Woodlesford, near Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Inspector Mick Starkey, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "Daniel and Ryan were both travelling in a black Honda Civic estate.

"The Honda was travelling from Woodlesford towards Swillington when it was in collision with a black Mercedes travelling in the opposite direction.

"Police in north east Leeds are still appealing for witnesses who may have seen the vehicles travelling along the A642 prior to the collision to get in touch."

The male driver of the Mercedes was treated in hospital for minor injuries and has been discharged.
