Divorced couple remarry 28 years later after son’s plea to find his father

A couple remarried after divorcing more than two decades previously thanks to their son’s request to get to know his father.

Annette and Duncan Gray tied the knot for the second time in 2017 at Brands Hatch racing circuit, where they first met in 1979.

The reunion came about after their son, Stuart, now 34, asked his mother to help him find his father.

Ms Gray, 54, told The Daily Mail, “Being back with Duncan is as if we’ve never been apart. If it weren’t for Stuart we’d never have found love again. But now we have we’re making up for all the decades we spent apart.”

The couple first married two years after they met, when Mr Gray was a racing driver.

But after marrying when she was 17 and he was 20, the couple reportedly drifted apart. They started to lead separate lives, and began new relationships and lost contact for more than 20 years.

In 2009, their son said he wanted to find his father.

They rang old friends and discovered Mr Gray had moved from Kent to South Yorkshire and was recovering from bowel cancer, which was a “terrible shock”.

Three months later, the couple began emailing again but only met up after they had both ended their former relationships.

Mr Gray then phoned his former wife to say he was suffering from internal bleeding and was on his way to hospital.

His wife said, “As he was rushed into surgery he said he’d never stopped loving me. In that moment I knew I felt the same but I wondered if it would be too late.”

When she went to visit him in hospital, it was the first time they had seen each other in 28 years.

Mr Gray, 58, told The Daily Mail, “We fell into one another’s arms. I was back with my soul mate.”

Their son was the best man at the second wedding.
