Doncaster crash: Two dead and one injured after car hits house and bursts into flames

A third person has been seriously injured

A car has burst into flames after crashing into a house in Branton, Doncaster - killing two people.

The Renault Megane crashed into the house at around 12:50 BST on Poppyfields Way in Branton, according to South Yorkshire Police.

A third person travelling in the vehicle at the time is being treated in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police believe that the car set on fire as it collided with the property.

As a result of the crash, nearby Doncaster Road has been closed from the junction of Warning Tongue Lane roundabout to New Road at the junction with Whiphill Top Lane.

The force expects the road to remain closed for some time while the emergency services, including the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, attend the scene of the crash.

Garden centre worker Michael Burton has spoken of the moment his girlfriend saw a man running from the car "burning alive".

The 21-year-old, who was at work during the incident, told the Press Association: "From what I heard, she actually saw the driver get out of the car, burning alive. He ran across the road to the lady across the road and she did a sterling job to help the guy.

"If it wasn't for her, he would have been another fatality."

He went on to describe how he navigated around the burning car in order to move other vehicles off the driver and stop them from catching alight.

"It seems that it has lost control a high speed, it's gone through the bollard a bit further down the road and it's gone through my wall," he said.

"People speed on this road - lorries and cars and motorcycles. Something, in my opinion, needs to happen".

Mr Burton added: "My heart goes out to the families. It's tragic, such a real shame."
