Flights disrupted at Birmingham airport after plane skids off runway

Flights were suspended to and from Birmingham airport this afternoon after a flight from Nice in France skidded off the runway.

Airport officials said the Boeing 737 Monarch flight ZB467 over-ran the runway as it touched down at just after 13.10 BST.

There are no reported injuries.

A spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that an incident involving Monarch flight ZB467 arriving from Nice and operated by Aurela Airlines occurred at 13.11 this afternoon."

The spokeswoman also confirmed that airfield services assited the crew and flights had been suspended.

Birmingham airport later issued a statement saying: "Passengers have disembarked the aircraft by the steps and are currently being looked after in the terminal, no one was hurt.

Flight arrivals and departures were affected with delays and diversions to other airports, while friends and family were advised to contact the airline directly.

At around 15:40, the airport released a statement saying that the airport had reopened with flights arriving and departing, though some may be subject to delays.
